Haydite
We are now offering Haydite for sale and it will be added to all future
orders of Bonsai soil from Nebraska Bonsai.
Haydite is a expanded shale, manufactured by the rotary kiln process, that
creates a lightweight aggregate with strength and will not break down over
years of use in bonsai soil mixes. It comes in various colors tan, yellow, and
a grayish black, we use the grayish black in our soil mixes. It also has sharp
edges which will allow for excellent root division

This is the size used for most bonsai.                This size is used for larger
bonsai                                                                                                and
some conifers.

We carry 2 sizes of Haydite 1/8"-1/4" and 1/4"-3/8". The smaller
size1/8"-1/4" seems the be the best for most bonsai applications. It is dark
gray and turns a black when wet. We ship 1gal. zip lock bags of either size
for $7.00 plus shipping and handling which is about $10.50 to most
anyplace in the lower 48 states.
